These programs are subject to continuous development, so the following description may be outdated in a few details. If you find changes or errors, please contact me by mail (see bottom).

Program description

The program "Image Accessories" (german: Bild-Zubehör, file: imgAccessories.exe) is an auxiliary program. It calls for an existing image file any additional files and start them with the associated application. In fisheye images is also the Fisheye Viewer "FEV" with the current image file started.
"Image Accessories" processes local paths und network paths. Relative paths are converted to absolute paths (FEV can't manage relative paths).

Operating system:  Copy program file:
Setup:
Microsoft 32/64-Bit-Windows
32/64-Bit-NT-Windows (2000 / XP / Vista / 7)
Programming:
Version:
by Peter Wieden with Visual Basic 6
0.0 ...experimental
(to try: works, but is still not sufficiently adaptable)

Proposed use: "Image Accessories" is commonly used by an image viewer (Windows picture viewer, IrfanView, ...) called with the image file as parameter. The image viewer still displays the image and "Image Accessories" (even invisible) start all the same named files, and possibly the Fisheye Viewer "FEV" and terminates itself immediately.
The started programs with the accessory files and the Fisheye Viewer must be manually stopped. If there are no accessory files to the image file and the image is no fisheye image, a german message (translated: "Neither found accessory files nor fits image to the Fisheye Viewer configuration.") appears - see image right.

"Image Accessories" further has following characterisics:
−  The program starts with no parameters as an empty toolbar (window with no icon) "Bild-Zubehör" (english "image accessories")
−  The program does neither appear in the system tray nor on the "Application" labeled tab of task manager
−  The window is always top (also disabled)
−  Image files can be drawn or inserted into the window to start accessory files and the Fisheye Viewer "FEV".

How does it work?

Installing imgAccessories

Method 1: Download Setup (link at bottom). Start downloaded file "imgAcc_setup.exe". After installing neither an entry in the Start menu nor a shortcut on the desktop is created.

Method 2: Download Only program (link at bottom). Create into folder for 32-Bit programs (in 64-Bit-Windows is it "C:\Program Files (x86)", else "C:\Program Files") the folder "imgAccessories". Copy the downloaded file "imgAccessories.exe" in the newly created folder. Try to start the program "imgAccessories.exe" - it has to appear a toolbar "Bild-Zubehör". When "imgAccessories.exe" does not start, then do method 1.

Prepairing image viewer: The image viewer has been enabled to start the program "Image Accessories" with the current image file. The single image and the slide show mode should be set to full screen. In full screen mode the images (also small) should be fitted to the screen size.

Installing FEV (FisheyeViewer)

FEV (Fisheye Viewer)
and Shockwave 8.5
to navigate in fisheye images:
... is outdated, but necessary for FEV
fieldofview.nl/fev/
download full setup
Go to fieldofview.nl/fev/ and click on the link 209 Kb to download the file fev.zip. Install from the same site Shockwave 8.5. This is the old Shockwave-Player, that the free software FEV needs. If after a Shockwave update FEV no longer works, the Shockwave Player 8.5 is to be installed again.
If the fieldOfView-FEV site is not available, you can download the files from the right margin at the bottom of this page.
In folder for 32-Bit-programs (in 64-Bit-Windows is it "C:\Program Files (x86)", else "C:\Program Files") create the folder "FEV". Extract the downloaded file "fev.zip" into the newly created folder. Determine the occuring pixel dimensions "width x height" from all fisheye images, with landscape and portrait are two varieties.
Then perform at least one of the measures 'A', 'B' or 'C'. For multible measures has 'A' priority over 'B' and 'C', and 'B' priority over 'C'. 'B' makes the slightest effort. 'A' is recommended for special dimensions, or if default settings by 'B' should be modified for specific image directories.
'C' is a relic for the case that only one parameter is to be passed to the Fisheye Viewer.
A) Create into folder of images to display a folder ini and create in it for each image dimension a file "{pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini". The entries of {pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini are analogous to those of fev.ini in FEV folder and has to be adjusted for minimal distorsion.
B) Create into folder FEV for each image dimension a file "{pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini". The entries of {pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini are analogous to those of fev.ini of the same folder and has to be adjusted for minimal distorsion.
C) Create into folder FEV for each image dimension a subfolder "{pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8]" and copy the FEV.exe and fev.ini into them. Customize the entries of copied fev.ini files for minimal distorsion.

Preparing fisheye images

Fisheye images has to be available in jpg-format and must contain the Sting "[8]" in file name (*[8]*.jpg). All other images may not fit into the *[8]*.jpg schema (*[8]*.* and *.jpg are for none-fish-eye-images separately, but not together allowed). Accordingly, the image files are to convert or rename.
What does [8]? This is the focal length of my fisheye lens. For me, each image file is in the form *[{focalLength}]*.* named, where the focal length is from EXIF data and the unit mm was removed. The Amok Exif Sorter and a batch program does it for me.

If exist fish eye images, then verify that for each image dimension exist suitable ini-files for the Fisheye Viewer FEV (see previous section "Installation of FEV (FisheyeViewer)"). One is on the save side, if in each image folder an ini-folder is created with appropriate ini-files within (method A):
A) Create into folder of images to display a folder ini and create in it for each image dimension a file "{pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini". The entries of {pixelWidth}x{pixelHeight}[8].ini are analogous to those of fev.ini in FEV folder and has to be adjusted for minimal distorsion.

The image file 2006−7596328en.jpg points by the Google-planet in the sky to a placemark file 2006−7596328en.kmz. With it starts Google Earth.

Creating accessory files

The image file 4711.png points by the film perforation to a video file 4711.mp4. With it starts e.g. the VLC media player.

If an image accessory file is created, it had to have the same file name, as the relevant image file. In place of the extension of the image file (after the last dot) is another extension (e.g. kmz, url, html, mp3, mp4). Images that should have accessory files should be designed that the image content is indicative of the accessory files. A specific designing (see images), or a screen shot of an application with accessory file, or the icon of the accessory application, will be recommended for the image.
There should be only one accessory file for an image, because "Image Accessories" starts all accessory files. Absolutely not should exist any same named image files of different image types. Shortcuts (*.lnk) are ignored, they do not work. However, internet shortcuts (*.url) probably work.
Problematically are *.AVI-files if them belongs same named *.THM-files. The AVI file is displayed by Irfan View in a separate viewer window. The THM file could be started as an accessory file, but is not assigned to any program. The THM file contains information and should not deleted therefore, else renamed or saved in another directory.
MP4's are'not shown by Irfan View (Version 4.25) and must be started with an image as an accessory.

Even with an automatically running slide show in Irfan View may be started the accessory files. The slideshow should not be stopped before the start of the accessory files. Otherwise, we would immediately switch to the next image by pressing the Shift key before the key combination is complete by addition of E. Thus the accessory files of the meanwhile next image would be started. The problem is solved by changing the order: first start accessory files, then stop slideshow.
You can also do without the time-triggered mode and forwards with keyboard and mouse. Just go into full screen mode and manage with keyboard and mouse. A slideshow is not necessary for viewing all of the images arranged by file name.
Using a slideshow, you can also define subsets of the images, and other orders (yet still use accessory files).

The accessory files are opened as follows:
−  Shift+E (first editor has to be imgAccessories.exe.)
−  If the Slideshow is configured for automatic advance: Break (stop before next)
−  Viewing accessories / navigating in FEV
 −  Exit accessories / FEV
−  If the Slideshow is configured for automatic advance and has to go on: any key (except "Break")
